2. What drives your price — nine cost drivers (how geogrid prices per sqm form)
Raw polymer pellets: PP drawing-grade listed at 7,600 CNY/t (Aug 2025), +9% vs. April — this alone adds about 0.35 CNY/m².
Drawing/stretch process: The energy difference between single-draw and double-draw is about 0.12 CNY/m² for the same 30 kN product.
Roll width economy: 5.2 m width yields ~18% higher ton-per-roll throughput vs. 3.9 m, lowering cost by ≈0.40 CNY/m².
Adhesive coat (self-adhesive types): extra glue ≈ 45 g/m²; glue + release liner cost ≈ 0.70 CNY/m².
Areal weight (gsm) variance: ±10 g/m² affects cost ≈ 0.15 CNY/m². Small but material.
Color masterbatch: standard black is the base. The UV-resistant green masterbatch adds about 0.08 CNY/m².
**Packaging:** Shrink-wrap, pallet, and protective packing costs 0.05 CNY/m² more than bulk. But they cut damage rates by 1.2%. This leads to net savings in the total project cost.

3. How to choose specs without letting “fake strength” fool you.”
Use the design drawing. The subgrade reinforcement layers should be “≥ XX kN/m.” Match that number; don’t go for a lower grade model.
Check elongation at break:
PP biaxial ≤ 13%
PET warp-knitted ≤ 11%
Fiberglass coated ≤ 3%
Lower elongation means better resistance to deformation.
Choose mesh aperture:
40 mm square holes are best for subgrade.
Use 25 mm small mesh for slope protection to keep stones out.
Roll width matters: A width of ≥5 m cuts overlaps by ~10%. This saves ~0.15 CNY/m² in labor. Big rolls are harder to handle but can be cheaper.
4. Four-step price-comparison playbook — squeeze out hidden margins.
Send “Three-Same” RFQ: same strength, same roll width, same areal weight. Avoid comparing 50 kN quotes to 30 kN to create a low-price illusion.
Must be a “tax-included, ex-works price” that includes freight and unloading fees. This prevents any extra charges at delivery.
Request test reports: GB/T 17689-2020 for tensile, elongation, and creep data. If any report is missing, then reject it.
Do a quick handheld pull test on samples: cut a 10 cm strip and pull. Poor geogrid breaks at ~2 kN; good geogrid >4 kN — instant discrimination.
5. Procurement timing & rhythm (practical advice)
Northern projects: Order before November. This helps to avoid production limits and heating season freight spikes.
Southern projects: Stock up before the rainy season (Jan–Mar). This helps prevent moisture-related alkali problems in storage.
For large orders (≥30,000 m²), lock in your price early. Use staged deliveries. This way, the factory keeps stock and honors your original price, even if market prices go up.
If you’re low on cash, pick “prepay + full-truck delivery.” This option is usually 3% cheaper than credit terms. It also saves about 0.2 CNY/m² in freight, leading to a total cost saving of around 5%.
